I was the Chair of the San Diego Section of the Audio Engineering Society for 4 years while I lived there. 

During that time, we produced quite a few fantastic community based events. Here is a partial list of some of them

• Reverb Characteristics of Large Rooms - Micheal Fay
  Micheal gave an incredible presentation on the considerations in dealing with acoustics in larger spaces. H has a new book, "Acoustic Essentials for Architects" that deals with this subject. 

• Student Mix off Competition
  We brought together students from several different schools in the San Diego area that worked on a mix provided by a local stdio that was then judged by panel of local recording engineers

• Careers In Audio Discussion Panel
  I moderated a panel discussion between 5 local audio pros from live sound, studio, acoustics and film

• Film Screening and Master Class for the film Making Waves 
  Making Waves is a film Directed by veteran Hollywood sound editor Midge Costin. It details the role that sound plays in film. We held a screening one night, then hosted both Midge and her producer, Bobette Buster to discuss the film. 

• DIY Ribbon Mic Workshop
  Wtih Rick Wilkinson of Austin Ribbon Mics. A hands on workshop where Rick steps you through the process of building a working ribbon mic! 

• From Set To Soundtrack: The Art and Science of Sound -
  Part of my mission in San Diego was to create connections between the different communities  there. This sound for film workshop for film makers was a collaboration between the San Diego Media Pro group and AES. We brought in Composers, Foley artists and Production Sound professionals for a day of demonstration and discussion.

• P.A.T.C.H. - Presentations about Technology, Circuits and Hardware.
  Our PATCH series presents various technologies relevant to audio production and local to San Diego including DynaMount, Satellite Amps and Tonelab DI Boxes.
